Artist Statement
"My work features swirling forms, deconstructing into nonrepresentational dreamscapes as the works progress. Overwhelming, organic masses twist into themselves, winding through human body parts and dissolving into cosmic clouds. The movement of these pieces can range from inspiring anxiety, to invoking a calm delve into the details. Morphing forms mirror the complex relationship I experience with my own mind and body.
The connection between reality and my own self-perception is constantly shifting. Sometimes the rift between my body and consciousness is so wide, I feel as if I'll never bridge the gap. There have been moments in life where I've slipped into that endless cavern, and even when I grasped for a shred of truth, it dissipated like smoke between my fingers. This body of work serves as a vehicle for those moments of isolation, while also questioning the toxicity I've harbored for my own body, for far too long.
The road to good mental health is a winding one, and while it is a path well-traveled by many, it can seem as if we are all walking alone. I intend to share my own trip down this meditative yet disturbing road, taking the viewer on a journey from the broader picture, down into the tiny realms and hidden corners within. My work depicts the swirling, morphing flesh and distorted perspective I experience, while also offering a retreat from the chaos into miniature spaces, where I often wish to go.
Through this body of work, I aspire to create a meditative space to ponder and deconstruct these issues. Art is a powerful vehicle to convey mental health, and I make this offering of my own experience in hopes to communicate with those enduring similar struggles."
